ATLANTA LOSES HEARTBREAKER TO BUTTE, 101-98

ATLANTA (December 9, 2007) - Looking to snap a five-game losing streak, the Atlanta Krunk overcame an early 13-point deficit, but fell in the waning seconds to the Butte Daredevils 101-98.

The Krunk (3-7) trailed early, dropping the first quarter 28-19.  Sparked by the hot shooting of newcomer Bilal Simmons, the home squad bounced back to win the second quarter and take a 51-50 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Playing in his first home game since the passing of his father, guard Zeck Marbury exploded in the second half for 17 points, helping the Krunk open up an 80-74 lead at the end of three quarters of play.

In the final period, the Daredevils (7-5) heated up from beyond the arc after going cold for the middle two quarters.  Sparked by 10 points off the bench by Sir Valiant Brown, Butte regained the lead 86-84 with just over seven minutes remaining.

The two teams would trade the lead back and forth over the final stages of the game.  The Daredevils took posession with 48.5 seconds to go, looking to ice the game.  The home team came up with a big defensive stand, and after a lay-up on the other end, the Krunk tied the score at 98-all with just over 25 seconds remaining.

With a slight difference between the shot clock and the game clock, the Daredevils opted to play for the final shot.  Brown heaved a desperation three-pointer as the buzzer of the shot clock sounded, draining the winning three-point bucket.

The officials conferred and put 2.6 seconds on the clock for the Krunk.  After inbounding the ball to Marbury in the corner, the Daredevils fouled the star guard.  The officials ruled the foul took place on the floor before Marbury could take the potential tying jumper.  With 1.6 seconds on the clock, the inbound pass came to Simmons, whose shot from the top of the three-point line struck just off the iron as time expired to hand the Krunk the loss.

Andre Owens led the way for the Krunk with 25 points, while Marbury tallied 19.  Waki Williams scored 13 points, while Steve Thomas connected for 12.

Collier led all scorers with 27 points, with Marcus Jefferson contributing 17 and Jason Miller scoring 15 for the Daredevils.

The two teams will meet in the series finale Monday evening at 7:05 p.m. at John H. Lewis Gymnasium on the campus of Morris Brown College.  Monday's game will be the Krunk's final home game until December 27.
